11.07.2008 - Kikuri (Merzbow & Keiji Haino)/The A Band/Domovoi - St. Thomas' Church, Newcastle

This took place in the church just over the road from Haymarket metro station, when I got there a little bit to early I could hear the soundcheck and it sounded evil!

Kikuri are a super group made up two legends of the Japanese noise/avant garde scene, Keiji Haino and Merzbow. There set was so brilliant it caused one of the speakers to set alight!

There set was sort split into parts, bit of Haino's poetry read, bit of free jazz then harsh electronics. Kikuri never played many gigs and if I'm right this may have been the first outside of Japan at the time, though maybe first in Europe?

The A Band have been a long continuing band that I think have connections to Vibracathedral Orchestra Was a part where one of the members went round the church clapping coconut shells! Reminded me a bit of the Holy Grail film by Monty Python!

Domovoi were a noise rock band round around Newcastle/Gateshead, another local band that wasn't around long but to me left a lasting impression after seeing them play.

Another hot night at the Lubberfiend on a Sunday! Don't really know much about Modern Heaven, they are a duo from Melbourne, Australia...
