29.03.2012 - Zoviet France - The Cumberland Arms, Newcastle
13.04.2012 - Zoviet France/Nicole Vivien Watson (dancer)/Edwin Li/Rhodri Davies & Clare Cooper/Popular Radiation/Kris Canavan ("artist") - All Saints Church, Newcastle
Have put these three together even tho it will spoil the order! But pretty much this was one tour of Newcastle, and you could buy a ticket that let you into all three so that’s what I did.
Zoviet France are a longstanding North East band that dabbled a bit in punk I believe as Soviet France before a name change and change of direction in music.
Now as a two piece, they were highlighting various bits of their back catalogue.
First two shows at Morden Tower and The Cumberland were similar in what instruments they used; I remember what looked like wooden pipes for an organ.
The final show was at All Saints Church which overlooks the River Tyne and a bit of a steep climb to get to! Later I had heard they never had permission to play there, someone who knew the promoters said he had a key and could do the show for a fee! How true this is I don't know, but the venue when I got in did look like it was getting work done to it as had to piss in the dark!
This time they had more people playing, Edwin Li played I think a giant Chinese zither. So good! They had a harp duo if Rhodri Davies and Clare.
The performance of Kris Canavan was awful, walked round in a pair of pants, body painted and just shit dangling off him. Absolute pretentious shite!
