Tusk 2017 was a lot more busier for me as a gig goer then previous years! A lot more to go and see!
It started off earlier with a free show at the Shipley Gallery, mix of performances with dance and music.
Culver got me with a great joke when Giles Bailey (from Dananananaykroyd) was doing his set. He had a song with the line, "You call your mum to pick you up" and Culver was like that song is about Noise Bastard!
I thought it was true at first, but it wasn't....
Swarm Front's set was class, Wrest nearly stabbed Noise in the hand when smashing up turnips (or they may have been pumpkins), though he did nick his own finger! Think whatever he smashed/stabbed up had the faces of members of Gateshead Council who were planning to pull funding on the arts?!
Saturday started earlier with a Midwich set which was to be the final Midwich set ever, at the end he took a part his keyboard/noisemaker and gave away parts to the crowd.
Then over to the Old Police house to witness Tref Wren rock out which slowly blended into Lush Workers set, at one point they were playing together.
Hans Grussel's Krankenkabinet were wild, all dressed up like soft toys! Nice noisy stuff!
Headliners Brainbombs set was incredible, not often I get up front for a bands but I did for them, I had been told it was only the 13th time they had played live and maybe the first time in the UK, how true that is I dunno, mean someone told me the singer comes to Newcastle a lot as he has a lass here?!
Only time I have seen moshing and someone crowd surf at the Sage, mate broke her arm during this set which nearly didn’t go ahead after someone threw a pint at the singer and he stormed off after 2 songs(?), he did come back out and finish the set.
Last day was started off a Work Place Gallery which I believe was the old Lloyd Bank, it would also later become home to the Old Police House 2 when they had to move from the Old Police House 1!
Great collab set between BRB>Culver, place was heaving and like an oven!
Ended up over at the Central for some scran and a pint and watched a lad called Simma do a few covers before returning to the Sage for the final night.
Enjoyed Bridgid Mae Power's set, nice lovely folk music.
Wasn't taken too much by Nurse With Wound's set, I know they have changed how they sound over the years but I wasn't feeling it, think I said it was a load of Lord of the Ring's nonsense!
Plus didn't help the fire alarms had went off before they played!
However another nice weekend!
